The basic function of large diameter gages (also known as rail gages, or shallow diameter gages) is to check large outside or inside diameters at a controlled depth. A rest surface is required to locate the gage. A part print that specifies the diameter to be checked and whatever rest surfaces are available is best. Details on machine fixtures that the gage may need to clear is also useful information to have when we are quoting modified large diameter gages. Dorsey Metrology manufactures a wide variety of large diameter gages with special bridge, donut and ‘C’ frames to clear center obstructions. We also offer large diameter set-masters with special anvils to check tapered or angled diameters. Large diameter gages with hump frames are available to provide increased rigidity to check diameters with greater than normal depth specifications.
Dorsey Metrology manufactures dial bores gages to check inside diameters as large as 36". Special ball contacts can be supplied to check the pitch diameter of ID splines. Shovel contacts are available to check blind bores. Dorsey Metrology manufactures bore gages to check bores as deep as 144".
Dorsey Metrology has manufactured dial snap gage frames as large as 42". We manufacture special form blade anvils for OD groove applications. Dial snap gages can be configured with ball or roll anvils to check pulley diameters or the pitch diameter of a spline or thread application.
Dorsey Metrology did not purchase the Standard gage product line. However, when Brown & Sharpe closed its Poughkeepsie, NY Standard Gage facility in 2002, Dorsey Metrology, purchased many of the Standard Gage specialty machine tools. Dorsey Metrology also hired many of the key former Standard Gage employees and replicated the Standard Gage bore gages and snap gages product lines. Though we cannot label our products with the Standard Gage logo, we are able to provide superior support and customer service for these products.
Yes. This is possible because of Dorsey Metrology’s unique shockproof, high-amplification dial indicator movement. Our dial indicators feature an adjustable eccentric cam to enable an actual calibration process to achieve unparalleled accuracy.
Dorsey Metrology’s highly skilled customer service and engineering staff is able to design a wide variety of special and modified gaging equipment to meet your unique application. The most effective way to address your special application is to forward us a part print. We can prescribe modified large diameter gages, dial bore gages, dial snap gages, or ID groove gages to meet your specific requirements.
Yes, please see the manual for the location and fuse type for replacement.
First turn off the machine and allow the bulb to cool down. Remove the bulb by grasping and pulling the bulb directly up. Remove the new replacement bulb from its box, and slide the new bulb in place. Do not touch the bulb with your fingers use gloves. The lamp operates at a high temperature and any finger marks will be "fired" into the surface of the quartz reducing the output and life of the lamp.
All screens are made out of ground glass with printed crosslines. The crosslines can be removed if the screen is not cleaned properly. We recommend that the screens be cleaned only with soap (a mild non-lotion dishwashing solution) and plenty of water. Use a lint free soft cotton cloth to gently clean. Let the screen air dry.
Possible because you are not using the factory recommended replacements. High bulb usage is sometime a symptom of incorrect size or poor quality manufacture.
